Dead striped dolphin at the beach of Liri (31.1.2021). Measurements and tissue sample.

31/1/2021

Picture
Dead striped dolphin found today at the beach of Liri (South-East Pelion, Greece).

This video is showing you what I do when I find dead dolphins ashored in the beaches.

First of all, I am taking as many photos I can, especially from any wound, hole, broken fin, and as close as it can be the teeth.

Secondly, I am taking measurements. In this dolphin the total length is 2,30 meters. Except total length, I measure the tail (vertical and horizontal), and some times the length of the jaw (where teeth starts as to the end on the tip of the mouth at front), the height of the dorsal fin, and the length of the dorsal fin base.

And finally, in the end I am taking a tissue sample to send to NGO's who are working with dolphin rescue and / or research.
Using the technology, it help us a lot in the field. But because AR measurements is still new we always confirm the measurements with a tape.
